DEMOREELS

ANIMATION

BREAKDOWN

------------------------

0:00 - 0:30     Doc McStuffins

Worked as an animator on the second season of Doc McStuffins, an animated preschool children's television series, created and produced by Humanitas Prize and Emmy Award winner Chris Nee and currently airing on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

------------------------

0:31 - 0:38     Spycat and the Paper Chase

Animation Final Year Project. I rigged all of the characters and animated certain scenes in Maya. I also did compositing and editing work on certain scenes in After Effects and Premiere Pro respectively. Full film available for viewing on request. (Character design and backgrounds by Darren Lim Wei Ren, models by Soh Yu Xian and Derwin Silamaya Suhali)

------------------------

0:38 - 1:00     Animation Exercises

A series of class work done for my graduate class, Character Animation II.

------------------------

1:01 - 1:08     Motion Capture project - Waving animation cycle

Motion capture done for an experimental prototype interactive film. I cleaned up the raw motion capture data in Vicon Blade and MotionBuilder, then built and keyframed the animation cycle in Maya.

------------------------

1:09 - 1:18     Animatic to Animation

Personal work. An example of how I interpreted an external animatic into animation.

------------------------

1:19 - 1:30     Animation Cycles

Personal work. I created various animation cycles for a character as if they were to be used in a game.

------------------------

1:32 - 1:58     2D Animations

Various 2D projects I've done recently. The first shown was a concept for a monster in an online MMO Flash game, while the second is a game I created using an existing platform engine, with all art assets designed, created and animated by myself.

------------------------

1:59 - 2:05 The Good Excuse

A stop-motion animation I did during my undergraduate classes.

GAME DESIGN

BREAKDOWN

---------------------------------

00:00 - 00:30
Collision and animation tests for a graduate project game, Papyrus. I rigged and animated the models given to me, and added collision volumes for certain bones (e.g. the golems chains and the bird's entire body).

---------------------------------
00:30 - 00:58
Habitrail Heist is a 2D sidescrolling platformer game made in Flash CS6. Players control a hamster-like rodent who collects seeds and avoids rogue rats blocking his way in order to reach the goal. Game concept, character design, art, animation and level design was done by me.

---------------------------------
00:59 - 01:26
A basic level demo of my game concept in UDK, done for my Level Design graduate class. The game concept was to have a flashlight that had two toggleable modes: one mode would function as a normal flashlight, and the other would reveal hidden passageways, secret messages and illusionary floors, but hide everything that was "normal". To navigate, players would have to switch between both modes of the flashlight as the situation arose.

---------------------------------
01:26 - 01:46
A multiplayer map on graph paper, and its counterpart created in UDK, created for my Video Game and Level Design class. We were required to pick an existing game and create a multiplayer map based off the existing mechanics. My chosen game was Fat Princess.

---------------------------------
01:47 - 02:01
A basic first-person level in UDK. The player has to create a distraction and escape the floor, while avoiding coming into contact with security cameras and guards.

---------------------------------
02:02 - 02:12
A sidescrolling game created and scripted in Unity. Players navigate a maze, controlling both the character as well as the rotation of the maze itself, collecting keys to open doors while avoiding various hazards.

---------------------------------
02:13 - 02:25
A sidescrolling shooter game, created and scripted in Unity. The follow-up to the previous game, the player now has the ability to shoot, but can only control the rotation of the maze; the player's only movement is to jump. Other game elements were also refined and added such as an ammo system, destructible blocks and spawn points for enemies.

VFX

BREAKDOWN

---------------------------------

00:01 - 00:10: Rotoscoping - Final Project

The final project for my rotoscoping class, which involved taking two seperate movie clips and editing them together into one seamless clip. (Programs used: Silhouette, Nuke)

---------------------------------
00:11 - 00:20: Rotoscoping - Various Projects

Several projects done for rotoscoping class, involving rotoscoping the subject matter(s) out of the background through a mixture of motion tracking and manual keyframing of shapes. (Program used: Silhouette)

---------------------------------
00:21 - 00:23: Tatouage - Concept Film

A product concept film for a futuristic mobile phone. I composited the visual effects using Adobe After Effects, using the base footage provided by the director of the film. (Programs used: After Effects, Premiere)

---------------------------------
00:24 - 00:53: Spycat and the Paper Chase

My animation final year project for undergraduate degree. I rigged and animated the characters in Maya, and animated the facial animations in Adobe Flash. (Character design and backgrounds by Darren Lim Wei Ren, models by Soh Yu Xian and Derwin Silamaya Suhali) I also did the batch rendering, compositing and editing work. (Programs used: Maya, Flash, After Effects, Premiere)
